  Apostle Paul Monument

  The very first European land that the Apostle Paul steps on in 49 AD is in the city of ancient Neapolis, as Kavala was then known, already an important port and commercial centre. In fact, Kavala was then, not coincidentally, called Christopolis for 600 years before taking its present name.

  Via Egnatia

  Via Egnatia was an ancient Roman road that stretched across an impressive distance between the Adriatic coast and Byzantium (modern day Istanbul) on the Bosphorous Strait. It was actually a continuation of Via Appia, one of the earliest and strategically most important roads of the ancient Roman republic which connected Rome with Brindisi.

  Filippoi

  Under the name of Krinides, the ancient city of Philippi was originally a Thasian colony in 360 BC, but was soon conquered by the then powerful Philip II, King of Macedonia, who fortified the city and gave it his name. During the Hellenistic period, the city was built with a wall, a theatre, public buildings, and private residences.

  The Holy Pilgrimage of Saint Lydia Philippisia and the Baptistery are located on the banks of the Zygaktis River, west of ancient Philippi, where the Apostle Paul baptized the first Greek-European Christian woman, Lydia Philippisia

  Dikili Tas (Orthopetra)

  The Roman Hellenistic settlement "Orthopetra" where there is a monument along the ancient Via Egnatia. Evidence of the oldest winemaking in the world was found there.
